Winners of the regional Intel Mini Scientist competition 2019

A huge congratulations to Clara Powell Addison O’Loughlin and Freya Star Amran , all in 6th class, who were one of the 5 winning projects today in the Intel Mini Scientist Competition in Shannon.

Over 292 projects entered this year from Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, Limerick, Clare and Mayo with more than 900 children taking part so this is a fantastic achievement for the girls.

Their project Wireless Energy Transfer will now go on to compete in the Grand final in the University of Maynooth on the 29th of January 2020.

The girls first got their idea for this project when they were sitting in their local McDonalds in Ennis and were charging their phones using McDonald’s wireless energy points. They wondered could this be used to charge other things and used the idea to power their own handmade car.
